Here in the Cabo de Gata Reserve visitors feel a sense of exploration and the area is particularly popular with nature lovers and backpackers. Nearby at the coast is the fishing village of Agua Amarga where one can find shops, bars and restaurants specializing in typical dishes from the area. Further afield Las Negras, popular San Jose and Mojacar are all within easy reach. Other possible day trips include Almeria, Tavernas (Spaghetti Westerns fame) Murcia and Las Alpujarras.

La Joya de Cabo de Gata is an ecologically friendly rural complex designed to blend in with the surrounding desert using local materials and decorated in an eclectic Arabic/Rustic style. Guests can choose between two holday villas each with two bedrooms, kitchen/diner, living room, terrace etc or the 'Haymah' a luxury Arabic tent fully equipped and providing accommodation for two including bathroom kitchenette and living area. Ecological breakfast is included with the accommodation.

The Villas and Haymah together with a Phoenician Swimming Pool, Jacuzzi,, Andalusian roof-terrace, Arabian Pavilion, Barbecue and Viewpoint are all set within two and a half acres of grounds which the guests are free to enjoy at their leisure. The owners can also offer by special request, room services, laundry, dry cleaning, catering, take away service, car hire, body massage, baby sitter, leisure activities, etc.
